Saruk carpet from the early 1900s, with a salmon background of exceptional size knotted with the finest lamb wool on a cotton warp and weft.
The subject is purely floral, less dense, formed by splendid flower corollas, ramage, very detailed flower vases, often with central and cantonal medallions, or with trees of life and "mirab".
Sometimes horizontal shades (the so-called abrash) are noticed due to changes in wool during the knotting of the carpet itself. Production area of these rugs is Saruk or Saroogh, which is located in the Markazi region of northwestern Iran, north of Arak.
The Saruk Mohajeran is part of a kind of rugs called the American period because they were born between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century to be destined for the US market.
In fact, today all these carpets arrive in Europe from the United States, but they are not all in good condition.
This is because many of these Saruk rugs are said to "sing" because when you fold them you hear the sound of the wefts breaking, then cutting themselves.
The Saruk Mohajeran, being of higher quality than the average of the Saruk, is much softer both in the fleece and in the structure.
