AUBUSSON CARPET

Aubusson carpet, a classic French subject with soft colors and first quality.

The Aubusson carpet was made in the 16th century in the homonymous French city of the same name, famous for its carpets and tapestries. Subsequently the Aubusson spread rapidly in the courts of Louis XIV and in the most important French palaces. Much later French masters taught the methods to Chinese weavers, according to ancient techniques.

Today, Aubusson and Needle-point rugs are perfectly reproduced in China's laboratories.

Currently in China, the Aubusson carpet is given an aging treatment. With the treatment the carpet takes on the soft tones and the flavor of the ancient Aubusson. I must admit that there are specimens that succeed so well that they seem really old (or almost). In other cases, following the treatment, these Aubussons remain yellowed and stained, practically to be thrown away.

The Aubusson carpet can be dry-cleaned, but wash it with water the result is far better. This is not to say that you wash in a drum washing machine, unless the man's friends have used it as a toilet. For routine maintenance we recommend using a good vacuum cleaner, never the carpet cleaner, and even with a lot of grace, at least every three days, two if you have the dog or the cat. The Aubusson carpet is like a sturdy fabric, being a type of carpet that does not have a knot or even a fleece. This is because it consists of a warp and weft of various colors to create the designs, as is the case with kilims.

The Aubusson carpet needs the non-slip underlay.

My advice, if you decide to buy an Aubusson rug, also buy our fantastic non-slip under-rug. The underlay is cut to size, to stop it and prevent slips, but also because it will last you much longer.
