The apparition of the first tapestries is normally date at the beginning of the XIVth. century, but it is from beginning the XIV century, under the kingdom of Charles V, that tapestries takes great relevance in France, to reach the period of maximum splendour in the XVIth. and XVIIth. century. This Flemish tapestry of the XVI century, that is supposed to be a fragment and that it narrates an episode of the history of Filottète, the hero archer for excellence in the mythology, is an example of it. After a careful examination, it can be affirmed that in this tapestry is represented the meeting between Filottète and Giunone that together assist to the death of Ercole on the fire. Only Filottète had the strength of mind to set the fire that the same Ercole raised to end his own sufferings. For this act Ercole compensated Filottète giving her his own bow and arrows. Tapestry in perfect state of maintenance and equipped of expertise.
